Causes of Maxillary Sinus Disease

There are four main sinus cavities in the head. They are frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid and maxillary. As the name suggests, maxillary sinus disease occurs when the membrane of the maxillary sinus cavity becomes inflamed. The maxillary sinuses are basically located below the eyes on either side of the nose. The inflammation of the mucous membrane may be due to infection or allergy. Smile

Maxillary Sinus Disease can Also Occur Due to Lack of Oral Health

If a person does not take care of his/ her teeth in a proper manner, there is growth of bacteria in the teeth and the gums. The bacteria may then spread to the maxillary sinus as the sinus cavity is connected to the nasal cavity and the mouth. Maxillary sinus may also cause jaw pain. We have used clear and concise words in this article on Sinus Treatment to avoid any misunderstandings and confusions that can be caused due to difficult words.

  • Jaw pain caused due to maxillary sinus disease is often confused with regular dental pain though there is a major difference.
  • Jaw pain associated with sinusitis is always accompanied by symptoms like fever, fatigue, nasal discharge and headache.
  • This does not happen in case of dental pain.
  • Jaw pain due to sinusitis always occurs in the upper back teeth whereas dental pain can occur in any part of the teeth. Smile

Though sinus can easily be cured by medication like anti-inflammatory drugs and decongestants, surgery may also be required at times. Nasal irrigation i.e. removing the mucous with the help of warm saline water and a syringe is another technique used to cure sinus. Some doctors allegheny college a warm compress on the affected parts of the face. It is always better to use simple English when writing descriptive articles, like this one on Sinus Headache. It is the layman who may read such articles, and if he can't understand it, what is the point of writing it?

Maxillary Sinus Disease Basically Causes Tenderness and Acute Pain in the Cheeks

It may also cause swelling of facial muscles. Pain in the upper or back teeth may also occur. This pain increases on bending down. Keeping to the point is very important when writing. So we have to stuck to Sinus Headache, and have not wandered much from it to enhance understanding.

Jaw Pain or Other Symptoms Caused Due to Maxillary Sinus Disease Should Not be Ignored

A dentist should be consulted as soon as possible. If the dentist suspects sinusitis, he/she will further recommend the patient to a general physician. Medication should be taken at the earliest to avoid complications and surgery. Quality is better than quantity. It is of no use writing numerous pages of nonsense for the reader. Instead, it is better to write a short, and informative article on specific subjects like Maxillary Sinus Disease. People tend to enjoy it more.

Many People Suffer from Sinusitis Every Year

The sinuses are cavities in the skull which are used to make the skull lighter, give room for the skull to grow, and to cool down the inhaled air. There are four types of sinuses in humans which include the maxillary, ethmoid, sphenoid, and frontal sinuses. The maxillary sinus cavity is located below the eye and to the side of the nose below the cheeks. The ethmoid sinus and the sphenoid sinus are some of the most functional sinuses and are located between the eyes and under the nose. The frontal sinus cavity is located in the middle of the forehead. Shocked

Surgery is a Treatment Option Which is Usually Used When All Other Treatments Have Failed

Sinus surgery is painful and usually only offers short term relief since during the surgery they only remove a portion of the inflammation and infection which causes the infection to usually return. Many sinusitis suffers end up having several sinus surgeries in their lifetime. Although there was a lot of fluctuation in the writing styles of we independent writers, we have come up with an end product on Inflammation Sinuses worth reading!

The sinuses can fungus may be to blame. The most common problem is a sinusitis infection. A sinusitis infection is caused by a blockage of bacteria and mucus in the sinus cavities. The blockage begins usually with a cold or allergy. The sinus cavity lining becomes swollen when a cold or allergy exists. When bacteria get into the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia, which are tiny hairs in the sinuses, are used to flush out bacteria and mucus. When the inflammation from the bacteria occurs, the cilia can no longer flush out the bacteria and mucus therefore it becomes trapped and the sinusitis infection begins. When a child shows a flicker of understanding when talking about Sinus Cavity, we feel that the objective of the meaning of Sinus Cavity being spread, being achieved. Rolling Eyes

There are Many Forms of Treatment for a Sinusitis

Nasal sprays are one common treatment. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution up into the sinus cavities. Nasal sprays are meant to moisten the cilia so that the trapped bacteria and mucus can be washed out. The problem with nasal sprays however is that they have large particle sizes that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics and other oral medications are also frequently used treatments. Oral antibiotics work on infections by flowing through the blood stream to the infected area. Oral antibiotics are usually ineffective when it comes to sinusitis infections due to the fact that there are only a small amount of blood vessels in the sinus cavities which makes it difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic, along with anti-fungals and anti-inflammatories, to make it to the sinus infection. Another treatment that may be used is irrigation. Irrigation, like nasal sprays, is meant to moisten the cilia so that it can function properly. Also like nasal sprays, it is difficult for it to make it through the inflammation and to the sinuses. Irrigation is also usually a very messy treatment. We have to be very flexible when talking to children about Sinus Cavities. They seem to interpret things in a different way from the way we see things!

  • Our sinuses have important functions and it is important to keep them clear from infection and preventing it from getting to the point of surgery.
  • A sinusitis infection can become an inconvenience in many ways and also may cause future problems for the sinus cavities.
  • It is best to take care of a sinusitis infection at the beginning and to prevent it from becoming chronic and from leading to surgery.

There are many symptoms which can duke university sinusitis. Commonly, a person may experience cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is considered chronic and can have additional symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and the person may also become fatigued. It is only because that we are rather fluent on the subject of Sinus Sphenoid Sinus that we have ventured on writing something so influential on Sinus Sphenoid Sinus like this! Wink

Gentleman Named Jason H

Recounted to me recently how he managed to treat a sinus infection without the use of antibiotics. Jason has a long history of 15 years of chronic sinus problems, and he has undergone 4 sinus surgeries. He is happy about his last operation to remove polyps and fix a deviated septum, and he has also begun using pulsating nasal irrigation with the Grossan Hydro Pulse' device. Nonetheless, he recently managed to come down with another sinus infection. Concerned that he has taken too many antibiotics in his life, he decided to attack the problem using the nasal irrigator. At this point a disclaimer is in order. Neither Jason nor the author of this article are doctors or medical professionals, we are both just sinus sufferers. As such neither of us is qualified to offer medical advice. I would personally urge anyone with a sinus infection, particularly those with chronic problems, to see an ENT specialist.

  • Personally know it is possible for the body to heal itself with sinus infections although the process can be long and painful.
  • When I was much younger I used to say 'when I get a cold it is really a lulu', and I would typically be sick for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • It wasn't unusual for me to be bedridden for 2-4 days with severe headaches and nasal discharge and tearing in the eyes during that period as well.
  • Of course colds don't last that long, and I now know that what I was experiencing was a sinus infection.
  • The more interesting an article, the more takers there are for the article.
  • So we have made it a point to make this article on Sinus Problems as interesting as possible! Shocked

The main benefit of pulsating nasal irrigation is for prevention, however, rather than treatment of sinus infection treatment already taken hold, as Jason used it. I'm personally coming to the conclusion that this procedure would benefit almost everybody. I used to be a person who would become sick fairly regularly, but now I almost never become ill. I've gone over 1 ' years without a cold or sinus infection, and it only happened on that occasion because I was exhausted before a long overseas flight. At that point I simply could not hold the infection off. I sometimes hear about people who don't have chronic sinusitis and who come down with colds, and this tends to surprise me. I used to be the one who got sick all the time, but now that is almost never the case. If I do feel a cold coming on I'll use my nasal irrigator two or even three times a day for 1-2 days (I normally use it twice a day in any case). If I feel a possible infection coming on I'll also take 5 mg of prednisone, and I normally also use a steroid spray, flonase, although there are a number of such products on the market. For about five years now this regimen has worked well for me. One needs to be careful with prednisone, however, as it can cause harmful side-effects. I use it sparingly, and my doctor says it is not an issue. Surprised.

Once again, I would recommend that most people seek advice from their doctor when they begin to fall ill. People like Jason and I, who have long histories battling sinus infection, can tell when we have one, but that is not the case for most people. There is no doubt, however, is there really such a thing as a miracle cure for sinusitis? with a saline solution is a huge help, and I'm convinced it would help lower the number of colds caught by most people, even those who do not have chronic sinus problems. And it can be used even for treatment of a sinus infection, as Jason did, although it might be best to try this under a doctor's supervision. Surprised.

  • Clearly the body will eventually heal itself, but the healing process can be much faster using proper medications, such as antibiotics in this case.
  • However, I too began to wonder if I was taking too many antibiotics after a number of years.
  • At present I'm pleased to say that my nasal irrigator keeps the amount of antibiotics I use down to a low number. Shocked

Any case Jason used his nasal irrigation system 6 times on the day he realized he had an infection, which is a lot, but the next day he felt a lot better. He continued to use the system once or twice a day thereafter, as he normally would, and after three or four days he felt like he was completely over the problem. It was the first time he had ever dealt with a sinus infection without resorting to the use of antibiotics.
